“Question Answering” is technology’s next grand challenge! (IBM)

Il successore di  Deep Blue, supercomputer giocatore di scacchi che  ha sconfitto Gary Kasparov, è DeepQA, un natural language processor che è stato “allenato” a giocare a  Jeopardy. E’ una sfida completamente differente, di cui si può leggere  in questo articolo del New York Times e che è illustrata nel video seguente.

For nearly two years IBM scientists have been working on a highly advanced Question Answering (QA) system, codenamed “Watson.” The scientists believe that the computing system will be able to understand complex questions and answer with enough precision and speed to compete on Jeopardy!

Tutto questo ha qualcosa in comune col giornalismo perché le ricerche che stanno dietro al nuovo DeepQA  (o “Watson,” come è chiamato in casa  IBM) può migliorare il modo in cui le informazioni sono processate nonché interpretate e questo non è molto distante dalle esigenze specifiche e caratteristiche della fabbrica delle news!
